About the Role
The Youth Cooking Instructor is the head chef of this community program. You’ll guide youth through the rewarding process of turning simple, accessible ingredients into nourishing meals. This isn’t just about recipes, it ’s about building confidence. You will lead a small team of dedicated volunteers to create a supportive kitchen environment where life skills are the main course. If you love to teach, cook and want to make a tangible impact on the next generation, this role is for you.
How will you make an impact?
Program Delivery:
Lead the Kitchen: Facilitate a weekly 2-hour cooking class for 10–15 youth using provided recipes and goals.
Manage Operations: Maintain program schedules and rosters while ensuring adherence to Association policies and safety regulations.
No Prep Stress: We handle the meal planning and supply shopping. You focus on the teaching.
Youth Engagement:
Mentorship: Act as a role model for local youth, fostering a positive, inclusive, and encouraging environment.
Life Skills: Teach knife safety and basic culinary techniques, providing participants with a tangible sense of pride and resourcefulness.
Facility Management:
Kitchen Safety: Ensure proper set-up and clean-up of the facility and program supplies.
Public Health: Maintain a clean workspace and abide by all Public Health and Facility requirements.
Requirements
Age: Must be 18 years of age or older
Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC): Must have (or be willing to obtain) a clear VSC
Safety: Must hold a valid Emergency First Aid & CPR (or be willing to obtain before the program starts)
Availability: Able to commit to 3 hours per week (evenings) for the full 8-week session
Culinary Skills: Comfortable and confident in a kitchen environment, able to follow recipes, use kitchen tools safely and multitask.
